Hurricane Preparedness

The first 72 hours are on you when a hurricane makes landfall!

Hurricane Checklist

Hurricane Supply Kit

Water

At least 1 gallon per person and pet per day for 7-10 days. 

Food

Enough for 7-10 days. Non-perishable, packaged or canned food / juices / snack foods 

Radio

Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert.

Extra batteries for both.

Flashlight

Battery powered or hand-cranked flashlight. Extra batteries for all flashlights.

First Aid Kit

Over-the-counter pain, allergy, gastrointestinal medications / band-aids / gauze / tape / neosporin 

Whistle

Personal Sanitation

Moist towelettes / toilet paper / garbage bags / plastic ties

Tools

Wrench / Pliers / Axe. 

Tools needed to turn off utilities, if needed.

Can Opener

Manual can opener.

Prescription medications and glasses

Have enough prescription medications for at least a week. 

Infant formula and diapers

Pet Food & Supplies

Enough food in airtight container for 7-10 days. Medicines / Medical records / Collar/harness with ID tag / Leash / Crate or pet carrier / Litter box / Plastic bags / Pet's favorite toys / Picture of you and your animal

Sleeping bag or warm blanket

Sleeping bag or warm blanket for each blanket. 

Complete change of clothing

A complete change of clothing for each person which includes long sleeved shirts and long pants with sturdy shoes. 

Fire Extinguisher

Matches

Matches or lighters in a watertight container.

Personal hygiene items

Feminine products / toothbrush / shampoo / etc.

Camera

To document damage to your property after the storm. 

Cash

Be sure to have cash in small bills. Some businesses may not be able to make change or be able to process credit card transactions. 

Identification

Driver's license or state ID and a list of medications and allergies. Put these items in a water tight container or bag.

Cell Phone

Have your cell phone charged along with extra batteries and charge cables. 


House Checklist

Outdoor

Remove and secure outdoor items / Trim dead branches from trees / board-up windows 

Indoor

Move furniture away from windows

Get Fuel

Put fuel in tanks of vehicles and other approved fuel containers.

Documents

Put documents such as social security cards, marriage license, property deeds, insurance information, and other important documents in an airtight container.

Coolers

Have 2 coolers ready with ice. One for food and the other for drinks. 

Generator

Have your generator fueled and ready for use. Remember to put your generator in a well ventilated area. Carbon monoxide is an odorless gas that is produced by generators and other machinery.
